You can register with Truecaller without using your personal phone number, for this use the service to receive SMS on our website, and keep your personal data confidential.
What is Truecaller?
Truecaller is both an app and a service. The app can act as an alternative for your Dialer, Messages, and Contacts app. It’s an all-in-one deal for the things that you do with your phone. Basically, you can make and receive calls through Truecaller instead of the default Android calling app. Additionally, you can also receive and send SMS through the app as well. On top of that, there are a ton of features included with Truecaller.
The most notable feature (at least for me), is the ability to block phone numbers easily. You can block anyone from calling you, and you can also block anyone from being able to text you. It can also track number of the person calling you in the history. And it can all be done with just a couple of taps.
The only issue? Once you’ve registered with Truecaller, anyone will be able to find your Name, City and Picture just by doing a track number through the website. Here’s what it looked like when I registered for Truecaller. The app first asked me my Phone number and tried calling me to confirm that it’s legit.
Then it asked me to sign in using Facebook, which I did.
And once I’ve signed in and Truecaller has gotten my identity, it has created a profile for me. Once you search for my phone number, you’ll be able to see my location and email address.
Of course, not everyone wants to have their information and pictures posted on the internet. Some might get uncomfortable that their information is so easy to get. Which is one of the reasons why you might want to reconsider removing your number from their system.
Okay, so how do I remove my number?
The team at Truecaller has made it really easy to remove your phone number from their system. All you need to do is visit the website, follow the instructions and that’s it. Your number has been successfully removed from their database. If you’re a Truecaller user, you’ll also need to Deactivate your account as well.
Here’s an outline of what I did to remove my phone number from Truecaller:
- If you’re a Truecaller user with a verified phone number, you must Deactivate your account first. If not, you can skip to step 3.
- Go to the Settings menu in the app, tap on the About tab and then click on Deactivate.
- Go to the Trucaller Unlist website by going to www.truecaller.com/unlisting
Here you’ll see the steps to unlist your phone number from Truecaller. Scroll down.
- From here, simply type the country where the number is registered. Then type the phone number including the country code. For the Philippines, it’s (+63) followed by the 10 digit phone number.
- Do the CAPTCHA test to prove that you’re not just spamming the website.
- Finally, click on UNLIST PHONE NUMBER
- Done!
And just like that, your information is now secure. Please note that the complete removal of your number might take up to 24 hours. Additionally, since your information has been removed from the website, your name will not appear when you try calling someone with Truecaller. It might become an issue since some Truecaller users might hang up on an unknown number. But if you’ve decided to remove your name from the system, then go through with the process.
Final Words
Indeed, Truecaller is a great tool to track the number of anyone that’s calling you. Signing up for the app takes little to no time at all and it has a lot of features that you can use, but it does also have its risks. If you’re uneasy that your picture and information is posted online, then you might want to remove your phone number for Truecaller. The steps aren’t that hard and once you’ve gotten to the Truecaller unlisting website, the process wouldn’t take long.
